Ron’s Personal Blog: Fifty Shades of Black and White

Ron Ousky, Ron's Personal Blog: Fresh Starts and Loose Ends

I agree that life is mostly full of shades of grey.   In fact, I think many of my problems may stem from being too certain about some things.

On the other hand, a bit of certainty is necessary, in order to keep from just turning into Jell-O.  So, today I want to list fifty things I really believe are true; no ifs, ands, or buts.

  1. All people are of equal worth.
  2. We have a duty to be concerned about the least of our brothers.
  3. Good friends will make it all better.
  4. Marriages only work if both parties are completely committed.
  5. Most poor people don’t deserve their plight.
  6. Most rich people have more than they need.
  7. There is a God out there and that has infinite love for us.
  8. Arguments rarely work.
  9. Forgiveness is for the forgiver.
  10. Life is better if we have the courage to take risks that are aligned with our biggest dreams.
  11. Unconditional love is the only kind of love that matters.
  12. We could all stand to listen more.
  13. Most people are way too hard on themselves.
  14. Most fears are irrational and optional.
  15. We are always free to choose our attitude.
  16. Most of us are as happy as we decide to be.
  17. Everyone has something truly good inside of them.
  18. We all are broken, in some way.
  19. Letting go has more to do with life satisfaction than possessions.
  20. There are many things that science will never be able to understand.

  22. Our country would be much better if we were less divided.
  23. It is better to give people the benefit of the doubt.
  24. Having children is about the greatest gift I could ever imagine.
  25. Treating people with kindness and respect works better.
  26. Civility is not weakness.
  27. Seatbelts and helmets are a good idea.
  28. Our lives would all be richer if we took more risks in our conversation.
  29. Most of us would be happier if we simplified our lives.
  30. I really don’t have the right to judge people.
  31. Truth works better in the long run.
  32. Reading makes us happier.
  33. I will never be able to find all of my socks.
  34. Changing the way we think will change our behavior and then our lives.
  35. Most of my problems can be solved by slowing down.
  36. The present moment is the only thing that matters.
  37. We are all as happy as we make up our minds to be.
  38. Sports do not matter (and that is why they are such a fun distraction.)
  39. Miracles happen.
  40. Connecting with people is as essential to survival as food and water

  48. Most of the religions in the world are based on the same underlying truths

  50. Authenticity matters.

So, these things are really, really true.  For Me.  I think.  What is true for you?
